What is "Belly Dance"?
What we call Belly Dance in the West is in fact one of the many social folk dances native to North Africa and the Middle East, however, it is universally acknowledged that Egypt is the birth place of this dance. Tarik teaches both the social dance form (Raks Baladi) as well as the theatricalized professional version (Raks Sharqi) which translates to "Oriental Dance" in English.Tarik demonstrates the characteristics of both styles in addition to explaining the historical and cultural contexts of the dance.
